I visited Green Cay wetland yesterday for the first time in months. It was a bit cloudy and chilly but as usual there were plenty of birds out:
Pied Billed Grebe
Male Blue Winged Teal
A very unusual find for this time of year, a nest of newly hatched baby alligators. A kind old gentleman pointed them out to me, otherwise I doubt I would have seen them. They were hidden deep in a thicket of gator flag, appropriately.
Two male Red-Winged blackbirds were dueling with song on the boardwalk railing.
They had gathered a crowd of a few spectators, including myself and another photographer snapping away. Next thing we know a fast moving "power walker" pushed through the crowd and thundered along the boardwalk, scaring off one of the songsters and silencing the other. Some people are so rude!
However, the walker did not escape without getting the middle finger from one of the onlookers! And no, it wasnt me. Not only is it a nuisance to photographers, but "Power Walking" as it is called, is actually not allowed at Green Cay for safety reasons (the boardwalks can be slippery) and it is even signposted at the entrance.
Even with the minor annoyance, it was a fun walk and a nice way to end the day.
