Loxahatchee

Visited Loxahatchee NWR yesterday to see how the Snail Kites are doing. We saw several on our way to the park, perched on power lines and feasting on apple snails caught from irrigation ditches. Here's one wearing some jewelry:

Didn't see any kites inside of the park. It was a slow day for wildlife at the refuge in general. The best subjects for photography were insects.

It was less oppressively hot than usual yesterday, and this morning the air was almost pleasant. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was "cool" but there was a noticeable difference. It makes a welcome change from 100% humidity.

I've got some travel in a few weeks time, nowhere exotic, just within Florida. Should be fun. I drive a lot less now than I used to so the idea of a "road trip" is exciting. After that, November should be more settled, so hopefully more time to devote to picture taking.

Still Here

We managed to escape to Juno Dunes the other evening for a much needed break. I was glad that we went despite the threat of storm clouds. Typical of South Florida summer, its either boiling hot, or raining :)
We did get drizzled on, but it was worth it, because we got to see an amazing double rainbow.

Here's a shot of Curlsworth, our resident curly tail that lives on the back porch.

Our family celebrated my great grandmother's 100th birthday yesterday. She didn't recognize many of us, but was quick to remind us that her birthday wasn't until the 22nd! Other than that, nothing else exciting going on.

Quick walk before the rain

Took a break from all the hassle and went to Green Cay for a relaxing walk. Thunderstorms threatened from the west so it was a short walk, but it was good to get out.

I have photographed this wood stork on his evening perch before. Today he was joined by an anhinga.
